Printing has come a long way from past times. Printing can be traced back centuries to cultures that used this technique to make consistent patterns on stones, clothes and even on their own bodies.

How Secure is Secure

A few years ago a piece of news hit the newspapers explaining how some fraudsters had managed to discover account details, credit card numbers and other sensitive data from a large on-line store. The store didn’t know how this could have been; all data was encrypted, yes some was printed but they shredded securely everything before incineration.

Five ways to prevent pens going MIA

Posted: 13 April 2015

A common problem with pens in offices is their tendency to disappear (usually innocently) in the course of the day without anybody being the wiser.

Some of us will just scratch our heads and head to the supply cabinet to replenish our stock. However, for those who are very particular with their pens or have a favourite that happened to walk away, it could set back productivity. It could even lead to a row with coworkers as a hunt for the offending party begins.

How the Post-it Note came to be

Dr Spence silver was a research scientist working for 3M when in 1968, he came up with an adhesive that was very unusual.

Although originally looking for something that would be extremely strong, what he actually invented was very weak.

What’s the ideal printer for a student?

Posted: 23 March 2015

For most students, the real aim of their three years at university is the creation of the perfect dissertation. This final bit of work is where all the previous years' effort, reading and turning up to lectures turns into something to be proud of.

Presentation counts for a lot these days and making sure your dissertation, as well as all the coursework leading up to it, is of good quality is essential.

For example, even if you know your subject extremely well, if you can't get your knowledge across to the lecturers because of poor output, you're not doing yourself any favours. There's no excuse these days for poor print, whatever your budget may be.

Luckily Brother is here to help with a whole range of printers that are ideal for the home, and indeed the student at home or even the student in accommodation. Their "1000 series" printers offer a quality that was once only available to office users, in a small and compact footprint.

They're single function black and white printers that do their job particularly well.

What's the ideal home printer?

Posted: 18 March 2015

We have busy lives these days, and everyone is connected. Whereas in the past it was the parents of the household who maybe had to print off a few reports for work, we're now in a world where even schoolchildren need to hand in professional looking documents.

From my experience, I know only too well the pressure for my child to turn up at school with immaculately created homework!

It seems most homes now have a "home office" of some sort, even if it's just a bundle of technology in the corner of the living room. And most homes have to deal with printing at some time or another, simply because of the amount of bills and other correspondence that comes in via email.

As much as we try, there's no getting away from the fact that most of us like to keep hard copies of things.

So, with all that, what's the best printer you can buy that will give long lasting results and won't break the bank?

Why do we care so much about Valentine’s Day?

Posted: 12 February 2015

Arriving very soon after Christmas and as a welcome relief for many restaurant owners, St Valentine’s day is a time for young (and old) love to flourish with the exchange of anonymous cards and the eating of way to many chocolates.

But why do we care so much?

Ignoring the history of the day, it seems that there are many reasons people might take this day seriously, especially in our busy lives where everything seems to be a rush. Maybe it’s just the focus some people need and a reminder that it’s not all about us – it’s also about them.

The Kindness Offensive: The World's Largest Performer Of Random Acts Of Kindness

Posted: 10 February 2015

They say if you don't ask, you don't get. But usually this age-old advice is only dealt out when discussing a pay rise or a flight upgrade to first class.

Seldom, in fact, is the idea of putting your neck on the line used for anything other than our own material gain and for the greater good.

That's where The Kindness Offensive comes in. The London-based initiative is one of the largest random acts of kindness in the world and is giving back to communities and people in need... but on an epic scale.
