Binding machine options - wire, comb or coil

Back to articles

Choosing the right binding machine can seem complicated with all the different options available - size of document, type of use etc so hopefully this binding machine advice from Renz will help simplify your decision by detailing the differences between wire, comb and coil binding options.

Wire

• Recognised as a smart, secure, up-market presentation favoured by the professions

• 360 degree page turn allowing document to be opened completely flat or folded back on itself

• Pages remain in perfect registration when turned

• Suitable for binding documents up to 34 mm thick

Did you know that wire has two pitches?

• 3:1 pitch stands for 3 holes to every inch binds from a few pages up to 120 pages*

• 2:1 pitch stands for 2 holes to every inch binds from a few pages up to 340 pages*

Plastic comb

• Main advantage is that if the document is continually being added to or changed plastic comb can be opened up and pages can be changed without damage to document or loss of comb

• Don’t get complete 360 degree page turn as spine gets in the way

• Spine can be printed on to personalise

• Suitable for binding documents up to 48 mm thick

Coil

• Spirals are virtually indestructible

• 360 degree page turn allowing document to be opened completely flat or folded back on itself

N.B. The pages go out of registration when turned (left hand side will drop lower than the right)

• Suitable for binding documents up to 24mm thick.
