Businesses have been advised to consider employing the services of professional interior designers to ensure that they achieve the perfect design scheme for their office spaces.
James Geekie, design manager at independent office design and fit-out company Area Sq, said that a design firm will take care of every design detail, right down to choosing the right office supplies and stationery to ensure they fit into the overarching design scheme of the office.
He explained that depending on the amount of money a company is willing to spend, an independent interior design company will be able to see to every last detail even if that means filling up their drawers with the right specification of crockery and cutlery.
"Certainly if you take an overall global design, I think things like [office supplies and stationery] certainly should be run past designers," Mr Geekie said.
"If there's a certain style or perception of brand that a company wants to make sure they get across, then certainly."
Mr Geekie pointed out that there is now a growing trend for collaborative work areas as companies, which are faced with shrinking budgets and the recession, are looking for solutions that work harder for them.
"If you take the furniture side of that, there are lots of different types of products out there that are designed for people to be able to work, meet or grab a coffee within an open plan environment," Mr Geekie explained.
He added that furniture-based solutions, as opposed to built solutions, help save companies money because they do not have to change their mechanical or electrical systems in order to build brand new meeting rooms.
Interior design and colour expert Karen Haller recently pointed out that a harmonious colour scheme is just as important as lighting when designing a new office layout.
