Could wall planners help reduce stress for pressured workers?

Employees who frequently feel as though their workload is getting on top of them, particularly during the festive season, could find a way to structure their deadlines by using wall planners.

David Liddle, director and founder of The TCM Group, explained that in the run up to Christmas, many companies suffer because staff feel stressed.

"I think the way that companies handle stress during the festive period is very important to the overall wellbeing of individuals and how the team functions over the next year. Stress is often the result of relationship problems in offices," he pointed out.

"We are on the verge of an economic collapse, the news is so dreary at the moment and that affects people's morale. Then there is the Christmas distress season [with] the debt that people experience, the challenges that normally happen for Christmas."

With businesses also having to cut jobs and downsize their operations, remaining employees might be feeling under extra pressure to get all their work done before they take time off over the Christmas break, which is where year planners could come in useful to note down when important projects' deadlines are coming up.
Mr Liddle commented that it is essential for companies to understand why their workers might feel the need to take sick leave due to stress.

"We find that relationship breakdown is one of the biggest causes of stress, whether that is relationship breakdown between colleagues or relationships between members of the team and their manager which contributes to over 75 per cent of where people experience stress in the workplace," he said.

"Our advice to companies is to build stronger relationships, create the conditions for people to talk about their problems rather than relying on outdated grievance procedures. [Companies should] introduce mediation services in organisations to help settle the disputes and tensions which help contribute to sickness absence."
