The humble pencil has been around for thousands of years now in one form or another yet it remains one of the most widely used writing implements in the world. Nearly every office drawer in the world had a pencil inside and not artist would be without one.
One of the oldest pencil manufacturers still in existence today is the German firm Staedtler. The Staedtler Company has been manufacturing pencils for over 170 years.
