FAQs > Office Supplies - Battery and machines Recycling

Please re-cycle your batteries!

Some batteries contain horrible chemicals none of us want to see in landfill sites so please don’t dispose of them with your normal waste. These chemicals can include lead, mercury or cadmium. Once the batteries are put into landfill they start to break down, and can leak some of these chemicals into the ground. This can cause soil and water pollution, which can lead to health risks.

How can I re-cycle my Batteries?

We are committed to reducing the environmental impact of our operation so domestic customers  are invited to either return their used portable batteries to our head office at Unit 3, Rawdon Park, Green Lane, Rawdon, Leeds, LS19 7BA.

Most supermarkets and shops that sell batteries will have collection bins for used batteries, and some town halls, libraries or schools may also set up collection points. End-users may find stores in their local area more accessible.

PLEASE DO NOT POST

www.recyclenow.co.uk is a good source of re-cycling information and provides battery re-cycling boxes for under £5.

WEEE Recycling

Many electrical items can be repaired or recycled, saving natural resources and the environment.  If you do not recycle, electrical equipment will end up in landfill where hazardous substances will leak out and cause soil and water contamination – harming wildlife and also human health.

To remind you that old electrical equipment can be recycled, it is now marked with a crossed-out wheeled bin symbol. Please do not throw any electrical equipment (including those marked with the crossed out wheeled bin symbol) in your bin.

Domestic customers who wish to dispose of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) reaching the end of its life can do so by emailing our WEEE Customer Services desk at WEEE@theofficesuppliessupermarket.com who will arrange for the waste to be collected or give you the address of your nearest collection service, which ever you prefer.

Business customers can dispose of WEEE by contacting the manufacturer of the machine (EG: Brother, Cannon, HP, Fellowes, Rexel etc) who will give details of their take back scheme when it reaches the end of its life. For assistance with this please email can do so by emailing WEEE@theofficesuppliessupermarket.com or contacting your customer service representative, who will be happy to advise you.
