Staff details disc lost by the Ministry of Defence

Personal information such as staff names, dates of birth, NI numbers and redundancy application details were stored on the disc. However, the MoD stress that they are thoroughly investigating the issue and that so far, there is nothing to suggest that the information is being used for crime.

This event has caused major embarrassment for the MoD . Apologising to their staff, the DSDA’s chief executive wrote: "Our security fell short of our own high standards and steps have been taken to address the process of using such media.  I would like to apologise again on behalf of DSDA."

As the information was held on MoD property, military police have had to been notified of the loss.

This is one of several cases in recent years where supposedly highly-protected information has been leaked.
